GH Bus Yard Exterior Fuel Tank Repainting Restoring Protection and Performance

Industrial Services of West Michigan recently completed a comprehensive repainting project for the exterior fuel tanks and piping at the GH Bus Yard. This specialized project demonstrates our team’s expertise in industrial surface preparation, corrosion control, and protective coatings — essential for maintaining safety and extending the life of critical infrastructure.

Thorough Preparation for Lasting Results

The project began with a detailed cleaning process using pressurized hot water and a zero-degree rotating nozzle. This high-intensity wash effectively removed oxidation, loose paint, dirt, and other contaminants, ensuring every surface was properly prepared for coating adhesion. Proper preparation is the foundation of any successful industrial painting project, especially when dealing with metal fuel storage systems exposed to weather extremes.

Once cleaning was complete, remaining rust was carefully removed using wire wheels and hand tools, followed by treatment with Rust Arrestor. This step halts the rusting process and stabilizes the surface, allowing primers and topcoats to bond effectively and provide long-term protection.

High-Performance Coating System

After surface preparation, our crew spot-primed all bare metal areas with a rust-inhibitive primer and applied a full coat of oil-based primer as a tie coat. These preparatory layers act as a critical barrier against corrosion and create a strong base for the finish coatings.

To complete the system, we applied one coat of industrial-grade two-part epoxy followed by two coats of two-part urethane. This high-performance combination offers exceptional adhesion, chemical resistance, and weather durability — qualities essential for outdoor fuel storage applications.

Built to Withstand the Elements

This multi-step process not only restored the appearance of the GH Bus Yard’s fuel tanks but also reinforced their long-term structural protection. The finished surfaces now feature a durable, high-gloss coating designed to resist UV damage, moisture intrusion, and environmental wear.

At Industrial Services of West Michigan, our team takes pride in delivering results that combine quality workmanship with reliable performance. From industrial tanks and equipment to large commercial facilities, we provide coating systems that protect assets and stand up to demanding conditions.
